RTI is slowly becoming a success in India

Slowly, but surely, Indians are getting used to asking for information from the bureaucracy, and getting it in time. Almost 20,000-25,000 applications have been received since the Right to Information Act came into existence and RTI success stories are reported daily.

The most interesting aspect of the RTI campaign is that, though it is a very visible one, it has no one leader or organisation spearheading it. It is a collaborative effort. NGOs, activists, the media and the aam janta are driving the movement.

While some activists and NGOs are trying to create awareness through workshops and seminars, the government is making an effort to create awareness with a view to curbing corruption. Read full report
