Samskrita Bharathi is reviving Sanskrit

Sanskrit-speaking villages are passe. Even as 2006 is being celebrated as the Year of Spoken Sanskrit, more and more people especially the urban youth are signing up for Sanskrit classes in India and abroad.

Meet Sanskrit in its new avatar as the language of the new generation Indian. It is not too far behind French and Italian. And joining up for Sanskrit classes is being considered almost as hip. Just like SMSing or e-mailing in Sanskrit. All thanks to a fast burgeoning movement started by an organisation called Samskrita Bharathi that has brought a dying language out of boring school text books and made it live again.
