The spirit of Godavari

The Godavari is considered one of the sacred rivers of India because it is associated with the epic Ramayana. On its banks are many places of religious significance to Hindus. Panchavati, near Nasik, is believed to be the same Panchavati mentioned by Valmiki in the Ramayana.

The river brings prosperity wherever it goes, but especially to the town of Rajahmundry. It is here that the Pushkaram festival is held. Many kingdoms have risen and fallen here. It has been home to many distinguished poets, novelists and dramatists.
