Reviving Malnad's Khajuraho temple

Call it a treasure trove of architecture hidden amidst lush green forests or the Khajuraho of Malnad, the Uma Maheshwara Temple near Hosagunda village of Sagar taluk in Shimoga district is a point of confluence between ‘nature’ and ‘civilisation’.

The Santara kingdom of Humcha, which was ruling the region in 11th century created this architectural marvel amidst the lush green forests of Western Ghats. Epigraphical sources reveal that Hosagunda grew into a prime commercial centre later. However, following the disintegration of Santara dynasty, the Uma Maheshwara Temple became a part of wilderness.
