P V Thampy award goes to Kannur boy who planted mangroves

Fourteen-year-old K S Sanoj, son of a local fisherman in Cherukkunu, Kannur, has been selected for the 14th P V Thampy award. The award is being given in the name of the late P V Thampy, journalist and environmental activist. Sanoj got this recognition for planting around 2,000 mangroves on the banks of Muttil river. He has been protecting them for the past two years.

Some other people who have received the P V Thampy award are T N N Bhattathirippad of Thrissur for protection of river resources, Ithapi of Kottayam for planting trees, Theeram of Kolavi for being active in protecting sea tortoises, Kallen Pokkudan and Puliyankulath Abdul Kareem.
