The life of Mario Miranda - 1949

Gerard da Cunha, longtime friend of Mario Miranda and curator of Mario Gallery, in Bardez, Goa, has released of The Life of Mario -1949. The book is the latest in a series, which include ‘1950’ and ‘1951’.

‘The Life of Mario – 1949’ is an illustrated diary of the cartoonist, and it recaps Miranda’s life when he was just 22 and a student at St. Xavier’s College in Bombay.

Mario started keeping a visual diary from the age of 10, in which he documented life around him. These diaries form a rich visual commentary on Goa’s socio-cultural environment and document the development of his draftsmanship and style. This book is the third diary to be released, the others being from the years 1950 and 1951.

According to Gerard, Mario’s relevance lies in seeing the humorous side to life and issues in a world which is becoming increasingly divisive and violent.
